Front Cover Step By Step

I decided on the name of my music magazine through audience research. From the feedback i received i chose to make the name of my music magazine 'charts'. I think this name fits well with then pop genre and fonts that i liked. The final font is called 'copperplate gothic bold'. I liked this style of text because it is bold and stand out to the audience clearly. I used the text tool to make the text and the color, size and font tools to adapt the text to how i wanted it to be for the final outcome.

I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out Leah from the white background so that i was able to place her wherever i wanted on the front cover of the magazine. I also used the rubber tool and the blur tool to make changes to the image after i had originally roughly cut it out. I also changed the color levels for the image to make Leah brighter and add effects to the picture that weren't there before.

I got the bar code for the bottom left of the front cover from Google images. I used the box eraser tool to get rid of the rest of the white around the bar code so that other things including images and text could be placed around it. I opened the three images separately down the side of the front cover in another Photoshop[ file and one by one dragged them onto the front cover file. I used the edit and transform tool to scale the pictures and make them the size that i wanted them to be. I also used layer style and stroke to add the box color effect around each picture highlighting them and making them stand out.

I used the text tool to create the heading for the main story line connecting with the image on the front cover. The chosen text style that i used is called 'trajan pro'. I wanted the font of the name of the magazine to be different to the font of the headings and sub headings on the front cover. I used the layer effect stroke to add a white shadow effect around the writing making it different to the other text.

For the subheadings and story lines included on the front cover i used a range of tools. I used the insert text tool to make the text then i used the  transformation and scale tool to make the texts different sizes on the page. I also changed the color of the texts making them all different but sticking to a clear color scheme which is blue, red, black and white. I used different fonts including 'trajan pro', 'copperplate gothic bold, and 'britannic bold'.

I included a banner across the bottom left corner of the front cover pop music magazine to draw the audience's attention to it. I used the shape tool to make a rectangle and filled it the color red. I then used the edit and transform tool to rotate the shape so that it went across the corner of the page. I inserted the text normally at first then i used the gradient tool to make the text have the effect that it has. I used the size tool at the top of Photoshop to make the text the exact size that i wanted it to be and arranged the text in the middle of the shape.
All of he above processes are place don different layers in Photoshop. This means that if i want to go back and change or edit something i can do that without changing whats next to, above, below, in front of or behind it. All of the layers fit together to make the final product.
